CMA - Medical Assistant (Cert)

The goal of the medical assisting program is to prepare medical assistants who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.

Students completing the Medical Assistant Certificate will be able to:

1. Demonstrate proficiency in performing essential administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing medical records, billing and coding, and handling insurance documentation (P) (clinical comps)

2. Display the knowledge and skills required to successfully pass national medical assistant certification exams, meeting or exceeding industry standards (C, P) (clinical comp, MAERB graduate survey and MAERB employer survey)

3.  Perform key clinical procedures, including taking vital signs, collecting patient histories, performing blood draws, administering medications, and preparing patients for examinations, with accuracy and professionalism (A) (clinical site mid rotation evaluation) (clinical site exit evaluation) (MAERB employer survey)

The medical assistant certificate requires the successful completion of 39 credit hours of Medical Assistant curriculum.

In addition to Parker University’s graduation requirements, a student in the Medical Assistant Certificate program must complete to the following:

• Complete all degree requirements with a grade of 70% or higher in all courses.

• Register and complete the CPR certification with American Heart Association (BLS), the National Healthcare Association certification is Electrocardiograph Technician (EKG), Phlebotomy and Medial Assisting.

Course order listed under curriculum. Students must pass the course in sequence with a weighted total of 70% (C) and if need to repeat a class and approved, they must reenter when class is offered again in the next trimester.
